Long haired Chihuahua

In ancient times, it is believed that they are from the Chinese hairless dogs and Mexican breeds. Occasionally they were bred for religious ceremonies and hence were prized by royalty. There are two kinds of Chihuahua: The long haired Chihuahua and The Short-haired Chihuahua.

Chihuahuas are small dogs with an average height of six to nine inches and weights two to six pounds. It has a big head and pointed muzzles and their eyes are dark and may have a long or short hair. It comes in different colors. The Long haired Chihuahua has a feathery kind of shiny exterior because of its fine guard locks protected with soft undercoat.

Care and feeding information is very important for those who look after this dog. There are certain foods that they are quite sensitive to and therefore must be avoided. They do best with diet that is made of poultry and brown rice. They don’t do well with beef thus it should be avoided. They are to be given a bath monthly but make sure not to get any water in their ears. Long haired Chihuahua does not need trimming of its coat which usually takes two years to grow up. It actually needs little grooming if at all.

Chihuahuas should complete vaccinations and should have an annual check-up. The following is the appropriate age for them to receive vaccinations. Six to eight weeks for Distemper, Leptospirosis, Hepatitis, Parvo, Parainfluenza and Corona Virus. At ten to twelve weeks it is to be given its second shot for Corona virus. In fourteen to sixteen weeks third shot for Corona Virus and rabies and yearly for Corona Virus and rabies booster.

Long haired Chihuahua is the type of dog that loves to stay indoors because they need warm environment and they are very playful thus likes small toys to play with. Pet owners certainly like to keep them because they are adorable cute dogs. They are friendly and are playful dog and are good for children too. Small as it are they are good companion too at home. That is why many dog lovers choose the bred Chihuahua over other kinds of dog.
